After many years working with in-house legal teams, I am still amazed and concerned to see lawyers at all levels of an organisation having large amounts of their time, wasted by a whole series of barriers, constraints and issues. In my experience, up to 40% of an in-house lawyer’s time can be spent on lower value activities.
The reasons for this are many and varied, but in our work with in-house legal teams we see a number of core themes. The good news is that many of these issues can be addressed and, over time, significant improvements can be made. While there are no ‘silver bullets’ or ‘quick fixes’, a lot can be achieved in a short period of time to help lawyers spend more time on the things that matter most.
By reducing the amount of time they spend on lower value activities your legal team can spend more time on higher value work. This helps improves performance, is much more satisfying and enables them to start delivering measurable value to the business.
